On October 21–22, 2025, the Czech Optical Cluster co-organized the fifth edition of the Correlative Materials Characterization workshop (CMC 2025) in Brno.

Together with CEITEC – Central European Institute of Technology and the Brnoregion Microscopy Platform, we welcomed experts from leading European scientific and research institutions and universities, such as Fraunhofer IKTS, DESY NanoLab, Weizmann Institute of Science, ESRF – The European Synchrotron, CEITEC, the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Czech Metrology Institute, EPFL, Université de Caen Normandie, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, AGH University of Krakow, Brno University of Technology, and Masaryk University

Over the course of two days, dozens of presentations were given on the topics of correlation microscopy, multimodal characterization of materials, and their use in industrial sectors ranging from manufacturing to biological research. Participants discussed the latest approaches to in-situ analysis, tomography, cryo-electron microscopy, and surface and multimodal methods.

The workshop clearly showed that the Czech Republic has a unique ecosystem in which cutting-edge research, industry, and technological innovation are interconnected.

A big thank you goes to all sponsors – members of the Czech Optical Cluster – CRYTUR, NenoVision, Thermo Fisher Scientific, TELIGHT, ZEISS Group, and other partners: Delong Instruments, Měřicí technika Morava, Tescan, and PVA TePla AG for their active participation in CMC 2025.

We would also like to thank the city of Brno for its long-term support of science, research, and innovation. The evening reception at the New Town Hall provided an opportunity to make new contacts, share experiences, and establish international cooperation – in line with our mission: to connect, inspire, and support the Czech optical industry.
