The industrial complex in Turnov is home to the technology company Crytur – a manufacturer of artificial crystals that are essential for the global production of chips and laser rods or in experiments in particle physics. And also the Company of the Year according to the Hospodářské noviny award for 2023.

“I know with relative certainty that the next Nobel Prize in particle physics will be for research on our crystals. We are the only possible supplier of crystals for particle detectors that are currently being built,” says Jindřich Houžvička, owner of Crytur. According to him, the new Nobel laureate will have to have better equipment than is currently available at, for example, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
